AbsFile is an Xtra for Director (version 7, 8, MX). It allows:
- writing and reading of binary and text files,
- access to all Windows file manipulation functions,
- calls to the file/directory open and save dialog boxes.
AbsFile facilitates the saving and re-reading of Director variables (symbols, numbers, rectangles, points, etc.) as well as text, lists and property lists, even nested. It is an indispensable tool for the data management of a Director application and for communication between applications or with the operating system.
The licensed version of the AbsFile gives developers royalty-free use of the Xtra in their commercial products.
The main features of AbsFile:
- Opening of files for reading or writing, in exclusive or shared mode, with various creation options.
- Opening or saving of files using standard system dialog boxes.
- Advanced management of the open and save boxes, as well as "select folder", "select computer", and "select printer" dialog boxes.
- Read and write file pointer positioning.
- Modification of file size.
- Insertion of "markers" for quick location of values.
- Reading and writing of bytes, short and long integers (signed and unsigned) and decimal numbers.
- Choice of Windows number format ("big endian" or "little endian").
- Reading and writing of basic Director types such as "Rect" or "Point".
- Reading and writing of binary data, text and character strings, using various terminators.
